Trust God – can you really do that?
Most Christians would probably answer this question with yes. But when life begins to fall apart, something different often happens. We try to stay in control, we want to understand everything, and we rely on our own efforts. This Christian prayer invites you to trust God, let go of control, and discover how trust, obedience, and praise belong together.

A Prayer to Trust God
Dear God,
free me from the desire to control everything.

Free me from the need to find an immediate explanation and definition for everything.
Free me from the belief that everything depends on my own performance.
Help me recognize when control is helpful and when I need to let go.
Help me distinguish between what is my responsibility and what I can confidently place into your hands.
Help me not to feel that I must understand everything before I trust you.
Help me not to measure my worth by my achievements.
Free me from the pressure to solve, change, and fix everything by myself.

Show me where I should act, and give me the courage to act.
But also show me when to stop fighting and begin trusting you.
Lead me on your path.
Amen.
Letting Go Is the First Step
If you find it difficult to truly let go of control, it may help to begin with the Prayer for Letting Go. Learning to let go creates room for deeper trust. That is why this article intentionally builds on the previous prayer.
Letting Go of Control to Trust God
Control, definitions, and personal achievement are not wrong in themselves. To a certain extent, they help us organize our lives, take responsibility, and understand the world around us. But we must be careful not to make them the center of our lives.

The center of our lives should not be our desire to control everything, define everything, or achieve everything through our own strength. The center should be God.
To trust God means being willing to let him lead us, even when we do not fully understand his path. It means being ready to question our own opinions and acknowledge that God’s perspective is greater than ours.
When we trust God, we no longer have to keep everything under our own control. We can act where God calls us to act and let go where our own abilities come to an end.
Trusting God is also revealed in the way we respond during difficult times. If we truly love him, we praise him not only when our prayers are answered exactly as we hoped. We also praise him when we are sad, when we must wait, and when we do not yet understand his ways.
And if we truly trust God, we are willing to obey him—not only when his will matches our own plans, but also when he leads us in a different direction.
Let us therefore let go of control and trust God. Let us stop measuring our value by our achievements and instead learn to listen to God’s guidance, obey him, and praise him.
A Prayer to Trust God, Obey, and Praise
Dear God,
I trust you.
I trust you when I understand your way.
And I want to learn to trust you even when I do not understand it.
Lead me.
Show me what you want me to do.
Help me listen to your voice and be willing to let go of my own plans.
Give me the humility to recognize when I am wrong.
Give me the courage to obey you, even when your way is different from mine.

I do not want to praise you only when life is going well.
I also want to praise you when I am sad.
I want to praise you when I have to wait.
I want to praise you when I have no answers.
I want to praise you when I do not know what comes next.
May my trust in you never depend on whether my life matches my own expectations.
You are God.
I place my life into your hands.
I trust your guidance.
I want to follow you.
And I praise you.
Amen.

Trusting God Means Acting and Letting Go
Perhaps one of the greatest challenges of faith is learning to recognize when God wants us to act and when he wants us to trust him and let go.
Trusting God does not mean becoming passive or refusing to take responsibility. We may use our abilities, make decisions, plan, learn, and work. But we do not have to believe that everything depends entirely on us.
We can pray and act. We can think carefully while recognizing that our minds cannot understand everything. We can take responsibility while acknowledging that we are not responsible for everything.
In this way, control, definitions, and achievement become what they were always meant to be: useful tools, but never the foundation of our lives.
The foundation of our lives is God.
When we trust God, we can let go of control without giving up responsibility. We can obey without understanding everything in advance. And we can praise God—not only for what he gives us, but because we love him and trust that he walks with us.

Trusting God Is Reflected in the Fruits of Faith
Trusting God means more than simply hoping for his help. Genuine trust is shown by our willingness to obey him and take his commandments seriously. Jesus summed them up in two simple yet profound commandments: love God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as yourself.
When we trust God and live accordingly, he transforms our hearts. Then the fruits of the Holy Spirit begin to grow within us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. They are not the result of our own efforts but the fruit of a life that trusts God and follows his guidance.
If you would like these fruits to grow in your own life, you will find a fitting prayer in the first article of this prayer series.
