Pursuing Your Dreams – How to Discover What You Truly Want

    Hello everyone,

today’s article is about the question: How can I pursue my dreams? Right now I am sitting in a place that feels perfect for this topic. It is absolutely beautiful here. A little while ago I went swimming in a small river, and now I am enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and the surrounding nature.

Moments like these always remind me how important it is to listen to your inner wishes and dreams.

    Discovering What You Really Want

The most important thing is to take time and honestly listen to yourself. Many people do not truly know what they want in life. Others believe they know exactly what they want, but while moving toward their goal, they realize that something does not feel right or that their dream changes along the way.

    Then an important question appears:
Should I continue on this path or not?
    Is this really my dream?
Or is there something else waiting for me?

Finding the answer often takes time and experience.

My Dream of Living on the Road

Years ago, I would never have imagined that living in a car could become one of my dreams. I discovered this gradually over time. I especially realized it during the first lockdown on Tenerife. At that time almost everything was closed, and people were barely allowed to go outside. I stayed at a friend’s house and felt absolutely miserable.

In Germany people were at least still allowed to go for walks or exercise outdoors. On Tenerife the restrictions were much stricter for a while. That was the moment when I truly understood how important freedom and nature are for me.

I realized that spending as much time as possible outdoors, traveling, and discovering new places is simply part of who I am.

I love exploring. My curiosity feels endless. Of course, constantly being on the move can sometimes be exhausting, but at the same time I enjoy it deeply.

    Freedom Does Not Mean Perfection

Sometimes I stay in one place for a few days. Then I might have a favorite bakery, a favorite gas station, or a beautiful place in nature that I enjoy returning to.

Life does not need to be perfect or spectacular all the time. Often the small things create happiness:
    a beautiful parking spot,
    a coffee,
    a river,
a shower after a hot summer day,
or simply the feeling of freedom.

    Dreams Often Feel Unrealistic

The phrase “pursuing dreams” sometimes sounds as if we are constantly chasing something that keeps running away from us.

Maybe nighttime dreams are like that. But dreams for our future can become reality. We can make them tangible and turn them into something real step by step.

The most important thing is simply to begin.

    Small Steps Change Everything

I believe dreams only become painful when we never take any action toward them. As soon as we start taking the first steps, the dream suddenly feels more realistic.

If someone wants to become an athlete, they need to train.
If someone wants to learn an instrument, they need patience.
If someone wants to learn a language, they should practice a little every day.

Especially as adults, patience is important. Children often learn faster, but adults have different strengths: more discipline, more life experience, and often greater persistence.

    Doing a Little Every Day

Discipline can be learned. That is also one of the main ideas behind the “365 Steps” series.

If you want something to become a permanent part of your life, you should do at least a little bit every day. Even five minutes can already make a difference.

When learning a language, this could mean:
    reading something,
    watching a video,
    reviewing vocabulary,
or simply repeating phrases in your mind.

    Consistency is what matters most.

Breaking Big Dreams Into Smaller Steps

Many people set huge goals for themselves and then become unhappy because the goal feels unreachable. Some people say:
“When I become a millionaire, then I will finally be happy.”

But often it makes more sense to break a dream down into smaller and more realistic experiences.

If someone dreams about owning a beach house, maybe they could first spend a vacation by the sea or rent a small cabin near a lake.

If someone dreams about driving a Porsche, maybe they do not need to buy one immediately. Perhaps renting one for a weekend would already fulfill part of that dream.

Sometimes people even discover that the idea was more exciting than actually owning the object itself. Expensive things often create stress and responsibility instead of lasting happiness.

    Dreams Are Allowed to Change

Life changes constantly, and because of that, our dreams may also change over time.

The important thing is not perfection. The important thing is staying honest with yourself and discovering what truly fulfills you.

Sometimes the path even leads somewhere completely different than originally planned — and that unexpected direction may turn out to be exactly right.

    Just Begin

If you currently do not know how to break your dream down into smaller steps, try writing your thoughts and wishes down. Very often things become clearer once we start thinking about them in a more concrete way.

And sometimes one small first step is enough to realize:
the dream may not be as far away as it once seemed.
